CURE International is a nonprofit organization that works to provide spiritual and physical healing to children worldwide suffering from curable disabilities. They are based in 30 different countries and currently have 10 CURE hospitals. The mission statement of CURE is based on Luke 9:2 – “to heal the sick and proclaim the Kingdom of God.” CURE serves children who, because of their disabilities, are often the very last: The last to be included. The last to be protected from abuse. The last to be afforded dignity. And, sometimes, even the last to be given food in their own homes. CURE’s work is not limited to physical health. We are just as focused on the spiritual health of the children we serve. Often, they are told their condition is due to a curse. Through healing, we get to show them the God who hasn’t cursed them, the God who loves them, dearly.
 

CURE treats children with physical conditions including hydrocephalus, clubfoot, spina bifida, and cleft lip/palate; they focus primarily on orthopedic, reconstructive, and neurosurgeries. Due to the lack of resources in these third world countries, many children suffer from the pain, social stigmas and difficulties that come with having these deformities. By helping a child walk without crutches, repairing a smile or straightening a back, a life is changed. CURE is also helping to repair communities and train medical professionals in those countries.
 

CURE at the University of TN (CURE at UTK) is a chapter of CURE U – a branch of CURE International at colleges across the United States dedicated to spreading awareness and raising funds for children’s life-changing surgeries. Our mission at The University of Tennessee is to be a part of something bigger than ourselves;  it is to be a part of spreading the Good News and hope that comes with knowing Christ by tangibly helping to heal children at CURE hospitals around the world.
